In 1938, almost every country turned Jewish refugees away. One unlikely city asked for no visa, no sponsor, and no proof of funds. All you had to do was get there.

🌟FUN ANNOUNCEMENT: I got into the FOODISH Dream Team! ✈️ I’m one of 18 participants selected, and this December we’re heading to Israel for eight days of food and the stories behind it. Food has always been one of the biggest ways I’ve connected with my own cultures, and I know the food across Israel also tells its story! I can’t wait to explore Israel through a culinary lens and discover people, places, and special parts of it I’ve never experienced before. 🥙 Follow @foodishanu so you don’t miss a thing!

BRB, do not disturb. Girlie pop Shabbat is in session 😎 This is how we want to spend the first Shabbat of the new year: fresh challah, everyone talking over each other, and absolutely no one checking their email (!!!) Shabbat Shalom, friends. Here’s to more of this in 5787 🩷

🌟 Gold Star behavior is me posting this today instead of the video I wanted to post because I didn’t wake up early enough to edit it. Why didn’t I wake up early enough? Well, let’s just say my Shabbat did not go as planned. And I’m still recovering. What’s the saying? We make plans and HaShem laughs. I certainly hope he wasn’t laughing at me while I was puking for 12 hours on Saturday and landed myself in the ER 😅 Not to worry! 🤗 I’m ok. Apparently I was just passing a kidney stone. Some anti-nausea meds, some fluids, and a girl was back home in a few hours. Anyways, 🌟 gold stars all around for listening to the signs from HaShem that we need to rest.

Why don’t I post on Shabbat? I may not be a super religious Jew, but I find the practice of separating 25 hours of our week from work, responsibilities, and other stressors to be such a beautiful practice. Researchers from the University of Cincinnati and Northwestern University indicate that spending 150 minutes (2.5 hours) or more per day on social media strongly correlates with increased self-reported depression. After October 7 I decided not to go on social media or check the news on Shabbat and it has been life-changing. I find it even helped decrease my doom-scrolling throughout the rest of the week! Do you have a special Shabbat practice? Share with the class 👇🏼

I know New Year’s resolutions aren’t really a Rosh Hashanah thing, but it is the perfect time to start doing some of those Jewish things you’ve always wanted to start doing. 🍎 What’s an intention you’re setting for 5787?
