Transcript [00:00] Hey everyone, so yesterday in Turkey, [00:03] Turkish President and famous Israel [00:05] hater Erdogan hosted Palestinian [00:08] Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. It [00:10] was a full delegation, press conference, [00:12] the whole production. And I want to walk [00:14] you through both speeches and stop where [00:16] it matters. I'm not going to read every [00:17] word of them, but in the media reports [00:20] of this there has really only been one [00:21] liners pulled out and there was a lot in [00:23] this that I think is important for us [00:26] understanding what Turkey is doing, [00:28] where things are going with the [00:29] Palestinian Authority, and how this [00:32] affects Israel in terms of the Gaza [00:34] Strip, and what and and how it affects [00:37] things over the next few months that I [00:39] want us to be able to be smarter about [00:40] and look for. Now, there's a religious [00:42] framing that both men put into their [00:45] speeches that goes beyond the normal [00:47] diplomatic language and I think this was [00:49] part of the point. Uh and it's part of a [00:51] pattern of Erdogan. [00:54] And this also this whole meeting and [00:56] everything that Erdogan said really fits [00:57] into a pattern of Erdogan's behavior [01:00] across the region that I've talked about [01:02] a lot, the way he's embedding himself [01:03] into every situation. And then finally, [01:07] there's a very important claim that [01:09] Abbas makes about Palestinian Authority [01:12] reform that [01:14] that we want to take a look at and I [01:16] think it's very important to keep an eye [01:17] on going forward. So, let's get into it. [01:20] So, let's start with um [01:22] let's start with Erdogan. Let's get him [01:25] up onto the screen. We'll have him up [01:26] there while I read from his speech. I [01:28] think it's only appropriate. And there [01:30] he is wearing his favorite scarf. [01:32] So, here's how he starts. In the name of [01:34] Allah, the most gracious, the most [01:36] merciful. That's what's called the [01:37] Bismillah. [01:39] President of Palestine, Mr. Mahmoud [01:41] Abbas, esteemed members of the [01:43] delegation, valued members of the press, [01:45] I am greatly pleased to host my dear [01:47] brother Mahmoud Abbas and his delegation [01:50] in our country. I once again welcome [01:52] them in your presence. As Turkey, in [01:54] consultation with our Palestinian [01:56] brothers, we are advancing the [01:57] Palestinian cause on the basis of a [01:59] two-state solution. Look, notice how he [02:01] opens, in the name of God, the most [02:03] gracious, the most merciful. [02:05] That's [02:06] that's not how heads of state normally [02:08] open a press statement, even in the [02:09] Muslim world. So, hold that thought, [02:11] it's going to matter more a little later [02:13] on. Okay, back to [02:15] Erdogan. [02:16] The genocidal Netanyahu government [02:18] continues its unlawful practices in the [02:21] West Bank and Jerusalem before the eyes [02:23] of the whole world. Occup- Occupation, [02:25] forced displacement, and starvation [02:27] policies unfortunately continue, [02:30] compounding one another. I want to share [02:32] some figures here. According to UN data [02:35] data, in 2026 alone, approximately 3,800 [02:39] Palestinians were displaced due to [02:41] settler terror, demolitions, and [02:43] evictions. And I made a video about this [02:45] the other day. We interviewed on the [02:47] Shoulder to Shoulder podcast on this [02:49] channel, we interviewed Naomi Khan from [02:51] the Regavim organization, and she talked [02:52] about what these uh demolitions and [02:55] displacements are. They're and [02:57] evictions. They're actually illegal [02:59] buildings that were the Palestinian [03:01] authority is trying to seize more [03:02] Israeli land. [03:04] In any event, watch that video, you'll [03:05] see a lot of details in there. [03:07] Anyway, back to Erdogan. He says, [03:09] "Nearly 100 of our Palestinian brothers [03:11] have been killed in the last year." [03:14] Now, he uses the term genocidal and [03:17] occupation and forced displacement. [03:19] Occupation and forced displacement. I [03:21] want to sit on those those terms here [03:23] for a sec, because Erdogan runs an [03:27] actual ongoing military occupation, an [03:30] illegal one, of another country. [03:33] People don't talk about it enough. [03:34] Everyone talks about the Israeli [03:35] occupation, which isn't even an [03:37] occupation. Turkey invaded Cyprus in [03:39] 1974. Okay, it still occupies a third of [03:43] the country, the northern third of [03:45] Cyprus. Around 150 to 200,000 [03:51] Greek Cypriots were displaced, were [03:53] driven from their homes [03:55] during this whole thing. Turkey set up a [03:58] breakaway state there called the Turkish [04:00] Republic of Northern Cyprus that no [04:02] country in the world recognizes. The UN [04:04] Security Council says that it's illegal, [04:06] resolutions 541 and 550. [04:10] The UN still runs a peacekeeping force [04:12] on on Cyprus. It's mandate just got [04:14] renewed again in January. This is an [04:16] unresolved 52-years-old [04:19] occupation and displacement by the [04:21] Turkish military, by the Turkish state [04:23] in Cyprus. So, I I'm not bringing this [04:26] up to say that [04:28] that you know, just to point out that [04:30] Erdogan is is a hypocrite. That's not my [04:32] point. My point is that Erdogan is not [04:35] principally objecting to occupations and [04:38] displacement. Okay, he does this all the [04:39] time. [04:41] Um he's he's also trying to occupy Libya [04:43] right now. Whatever. Let's get back to [04:46] what he said. [04:47] Quote, "The situation is the product of [04:50] a systematic occupation and attrition [04:52] strategy trying to make it impossible [04:55] for the Palestinian administration to [04:57] breathe on its own land. [05:00] The existence of a sovereign Palestinian [05:01] state is being undermined, but despite [05:04] all attempts at suppression and [05:05] displacement, the Palestinian people [05:07] stand firm." [05:10] Okay, and then he goes on in the speech. [05:11] He frames support for Palestine as the [05:13] duty of the entire humanity and the [05:15] Islamic world foremost among them. [05:17] And then he turns to the topic of [05:19] elections in the Palestinian Authority. [05:23] Quote, "I hope the decision on the [05:25] long-awaited legislative and [05:26] presidential elections to be held in [05:28] Palestine brings good fortune. I hope [05:31] the elections contribute to advancing [05:34] the reconciliation process among our [05:36] Palestinian brothers and to [05:38] strengthening the unity and solidarity [05:40] of the Palestinian people." Now, what [05:42] that's about is about the fact that [05:44] Hamas is the most popular uh political [05:47] force [05:48] and he's hoping that all these terrorist [05:51] groups participate in the elections and [05:53] unify. Maybe he means that, but that's [05:54] not even the main comment I want to make [05:57] on this. [05:58] Um [06:00] You notice [06:02] he talks about elections. Now, think [06:04] about it. Erdogan has no role in Judea [06:06] and Samaria. He has no role in what's [06:10] going on between Israel and [06:12] and the Palestinian Authority. He has no [06:14] role whatsoever. He's cre- That's what [06:16] this press conference is about. He's [06:17] carving out a role as a patron, as a [06:19] superpower in the region. [06:22] That he's saying the way things ought to [06:23] be. [06:26] See, [06:27] Erdogan didn't need to mention the [06:28] Palestinian elections that are supposed [06:30] to happen at the end of November. [06:33] Why did he bring them up? [06:36] So, right now we're in this whole [06:39] uh Board of Peace Trump Gaza plan [06:43] situation. Now, the Trump 20-point Gaza [06:46] plan, [06:49] which the Board of Peace is supposed to [06:50] be implementing, that's a separate issue [06:51] that I've touched on already, got [06:53] ratified as a UN Security Council [06:55] resolution called Resolution 2803. [06:59] And that resolution, we're going to [07:01] quote from it a little later in this [07:02] video, [07:03] it makes the condition for any [07:08] role for the Palestinian Authority in [07:10] governing Gaza conditional on the [07:12] Palestinian Authority completing a [07:14] comprehensive reform program. [07:17] So, [07:18] if you're Mahmoud Abbas or Erdogan or [07:20] anyone else invested in the Palestinian [07:22] Authority taking over Gaza, [07:25] you need the whole world to believe that [07:26] you have reformed [07:28] and that reform is happening. [07:30] And you need a diplomatic predicate, a [07:32] public diplomatic predicate, a way of [07:35] saying, "Look, we're going to declare to [07:37] the world that the Palestinian Authority [07:39] is in the process of reforming." [07:42] And the easiest way to do that is to [07:44] talk about the fact that they're having [07:45] elections. That they're going to point [07:48] to elections as a proof of reform. Cuz [07:51] an election is a very visible thing, and [07:53] it looked wow, free and fair elections. [07:55] This is, you know, democratic. This is [07:56] Palestinian Authority reforms. [08:00] And the best part of it is is it doesn't [08:02] cost Abbas anything that actually [08:04] matters, like disarming Hamas and [08:07] Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist [08:08] groups, or opening up the Palestinian [08:11] Authority finances to an outside audit, [08:14] or stopping paying terrorists. We'll get [08:16] into all of that soon in a moment. [08:19] But I believe that what's going to [08:21] happen [08:22] after November 28th, when or around [08:24] November 28th, when the Palestinian [08:26] Authority is having their elections, is [08:28] the narrative, the headline in the [08:29] media, in all the international media is [08:32] going to be the Palestinian Authority is [08:34] clearly undergoing a major reform. Look, [08:37] they held free and fair elections. [08:40] And it's going to get repeated by [08:40] everybody. [08:43] Okay? And I think that this press [08:45] conference, this diplomatic meeting [08:47] one major purpose of it was to set that [08:50] narrative in motion. [08:52] Let's keep going. This is more Erdogan. [08:54] In today's meeting, we also reaffirmed [08:56] our solidarity against attacks, [08:58] violations, and provocations targeting [09:00] holy sites in the Palestinian territory, [09:03] particularly Al-Aqsa Mosque and the [09:05] Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. We are [09:08] strongly opposed to provocations aimed [09:10] at changing the status of our first [09:12] Qibla, Al-Aqsa Mosque, and other sacred [09:15] sites. Never mind the fact that the [09:17] Temple Mount in Jerusalem is in is in an [09:19] area that is totally annexed as part of [09:21] Israel. It has nothing to do with the [09:22] Palestinian Authority. In any event, he [09:25] brings this up. [09:27] But what's he doing here? He's [09:28] positioning Turkey and himself as the [09:31] guardian of Islamic holy sites, our [09:33] first Qibla. [09:35] Right? This is This is Erdoğan who [09:38] converted the Hagia Sophia [09:41] a church back into a mosque, and he's [09:44] been steadily inserting Turkish [09:45] influence into Syria since Assad fell, [09:48] into Lebanon's reconstruction, into the [09:50] Gaza situation, and now he's hosting and [09:52] effectively patronizing the Palestinian [09:54] Authority, and he's the protector of [09:56] Al-Aqsa. [09:58] This is the neo-Ottoman [10:01] regional power asserting itself. That's [10:04] what this is about. That's what Erdoğan [10:05] is doing. That's why this was important. [10:07] He doesn't want He's He's got his [10:09] fingers in Syria. Well, more than that, [10:11] he's he owns Syria basically now, and [10:12] he's sticking his fingers into Lebanon [10:14] and and getting his his uh his NGO, the [10:18] IHH, in you know, into Gaza and trying [10:20] to become part of the international [10:21] stabilization force, and he's one of the [10:23] mediators of the Gaza board of peace [10:25] deal, and now he's becoming the patron [10:28] of the Palestinian Authority. This is [10:29] what Erdoğan is doing. [10:31] This is what we've been talking about [10:32] for like a year or two about Erdoğan. [10:35] And you know, so after this, he then in [10:38] the next piece of the speech, he accuses [10:40] Netanyahu of trying to profit from chaos [10:42] and erase Palestine from the world's [10:44] agenda, which we are trying to do. [10:46] Um he he then he restates Turkey's [10:49] commitment to a Palestinian state [10:50] according to the 1967 [10:53] um ceasefire lines [10:55] uh with East Jerusalem as its capital, [10:58] and then he turns to Gaza. And he [11:00] praises the Palestinian side's [11:01] constructive stance against Israeli [11:04] intransigence. Listen to this. Quote, [11:06] "The people of Gaza have clearly shown [11:08] that they stand for peace, that they [11:10] want peace, and that they have a strong [11:12] will toward that end." And he he then [11:15] closes by thanking Abbas's delegation [11:17] and offering condolences [11:19] uh over an F-16 crash that day that [11:22] happened in Turkey. Okay, and then he [11:24] gives the floor over to Abbas. Now, his [11:25] speech was in Turkish. I I [11:28] ran it through a translator to get it [11:29] into English. [11:30] Abbas spoke in Arabic. [11:33] But notice what he [11:34] you know, you know, what he what he says [11:36] here. He talks about how how the [11:37] Palestinian people, the people of Gaza [11:39] want peace. Very nice. [11:41] Uh this is a guy who hosts the Hamas [11:43] leadership in uh [11:46] you know, working with Qatar to [11:48] preserve the Hamas guys. All right. [11:51] Talk about wanting peace. [11:53] Let's go to Abbas's speech now. So, I [11:54] guess we should pull him up on the [11:55] screen. [11:57] You know, it's only fair. Here we go. [12:00] Here's Mahmoud Abbas. [12:02] Lovely picture of him. [12:04] And what does he have to say? [12:06] So, he opens as follows. [12:09] "Thank you. Thank you, Mr. President, [12:10] for everything you mentioned. In the [12:12] name of God, Allah, in the name of [12:14] Allah, the most gracious, the most [12:15] merciful. Oh, you who believe, be [12:18] patient, compete in patience, stand [12:22] firm, and fear God that you may succeed. [12:24] God Almighty has spoken the truth." [12:26] There it is again, the bismillah. [12:28] And this time, he quotes the Quran, a [12:30] verse about being patient and and [12:32] standing firm in patience, like, you [12:34] know, we're taking the long view, we're [12:37] we're going to be resilient in this long [12:38] fight for Palestine. [12:41] But notice both of them opened with [12:44] Allah. [12:45] And that you know, that that continues [12:48] to tell us what we're actually seeing [12:49] here in this event. [12:51] He uh he then goes on he starts off he [12:53] thanks Erdogan and Turkey for supporting [12:55] uh Palestinian rights, for humanitarian [12:58] aid to Gaza, for treating the wounded [13:00] and hosting Palestinian students. And [13:02] then he gets into the substance of his [13:03] speech. And he says as follows, quote, [13:06] "We affirmed the importance of expanding [13:08] dialogue and understanding among the [13:10] countries of the region and the [13:12] importance of the joint defense [13:13] agreement recently concluded between [13:16] Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan. A [13:19] highly important agreement which we hope [13:21] will be the beginning of a broader [13:23] agreement that contributes to [13:24] strengthening security and stability and [13:27] protects the interests of the Islamic [13:30] nation. [13:31] Protects the interests of the Islamic [13:33] nation. Okay, that's the head of the [13:35] Palestinian Authority describing a [13:37] trilateral defense pact between Turkey, [13:39] Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, [13:41] nuclear-armed Pakistan, in [13:43] civilizational religious terms. Not in [13:46] state terms, not in in geopolitical [13:48] terms, but in civilizational religious [13:51] terms. It's a Sunni block. [13:55] Right? It's [13:56] the the the Muslim nation. [14:00] And then he he repeats the standard PLO [14:02] line that a just peace requires ending [14:05] the occupation and establishing a [14:06] Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as [14:08] its capital. And then he turns to Gaza. [14:11] Quote, [14:12] "Regarding the Gaza Strip, we praise the [14:15] efforts of our brothers in Turkey, [14:17] Egypt, Qatar, and also the United States [14:19] for the ceasefire. We support [14:21] international efforts to implement [14:23] resolution 2803, [14:26] ensuring the end of the war and the [14:29] return of the Palestinian legitimacy to [14:30] Gaza. We have said and continue to say [14:33] no state in Gaza and no state without [14:36] Gaza. Any arrangements concerning Gaza [14:38] must be made through the state of [14:41] Palestine. Now, before we get to [14:42] resolution 2803, I would be remiss if I [14:45] did not do this. And that is tell you [14:48] about the webinar we're having on [14:50] Sunday. Okay, now I want to talk [16:03] about this resolution 2803 that just got [16:05] mentioned. Now, what is resolution 2803? [16:08] I mentioned it before, but very quickly, [16:10] Trump came out with this 20-point Gaza [16:12] plan. [16:13] Right? Great. The 20-point Gaza plan [16:16] then was brought to the UN Security [16:18] Council. The UN Security Council then [16:20] turned that into resolution 2803. So, [16:23] basically took the whole thing, cut and [16:24] paste, and stuck it on as the uh as the [16:27] second as the second part of resolution [16:29] 2803. And resolution 2803 has a preamble [16:33] to it, meaning it has Well, it's not a [16:34] preamble, it's the resolution itself in [16:36] the appendix of the resolution is the [16:38] 20-point plan. That's what it is. Okay? [16:42] Now, in resolution 2803, [16:45] what does it say in there? I mean, [16:47] here's Abbas saying, let's read it [16:49] again. He said, [16:51] "We support international efforts to [16:53] implement resolution 2803." [16:58] But in resolution 2803, it actually [17:01] specifically states [17:03] that the Palestinian Authority must [17:06] undergo a reform program, [17:10] and [17:11] it names exactly what that reform [17:14] program is. [17:15] Let's take a look. [17:18] Here's the UN Security Council [17:19] resolution 2803. [17:21] And here's what it says. [17:23] That the Security Council welcomes the [17:24] establishment of the Board of Peace as a [17:26] transitional administration with [17:28] international legal personality that [17:30] will set the framework and coordinate [17:32] funding for the redevelopment of Gaza [17:33] pursuant to the comprehensive plan and [17:35] in a manner consistent with the relevant [17:37] international legal principles until [17:39] such time as the Palestinian Authority [17:42] has satisfactorily completed its reform [17:46] program as outlined in various proposals [17:49] including President Trump's peace plan [17:52] in 2020. And the Saudi French proposal [17:55] and can securely be and effectively take [17:57] back control of Gaza. [17:59] Okay, so it says here in 2803 which [18:02] Abbas says he wants to fulfill [18:05] that the Palestinian Authority has no [18:07] role in Gaza until they've undergone a [18:10] reform program that is [18:12] outlined in President Trump's peace plan [18:14] in 2020. [18:18] You following? [18:19] You got that? [18:21] So [18:23] in that plan, let's take a look at that [18:25] plan. [18:26] Let's take a look what it says. [18:29] Here we go. [18:35] In that plan there is a section called [18:37] conduct during negotiations. [18:39] And it spells out what the PLO and the [18:41] Palestinian Authority are supposed to do [18:43] immediately during the negotiating stage [18:46] as reforms to move forward with [18:48] negotiations. Look what it says. [18:51] It says they have to drop pending cases [18:53] against Israel and the US at the [18:55] International Criminal Court and the and [18:57] the International Court of Justice that [18:58] it can't [19:00] it has to stop harassing [19:02] um [19:04] Israelis in every way. And look at this [19:07] specific line I want to show you. Look [19:08] what it says here. [19:11] I take no action against Israeli [19:12] citizens before Interpol, right? Take [19:15] all necessary actions immediately to to [19:18] immediately terminate the paying of [19:20] salaries to terrorists serving sentences [19:22] in Israeli prisons, as well as families [19:24] of deceased terrorists. To develop [19:26] humanitarian and welfare programs to [19:28] provide essential services to to support [19:30] Palestinians in need that are not based [19:33] on the commission of terrorist acts. The [19:35] goal is to change the applicable laws in [19:37] a manner that's consistent with the laws [19:39] of the United States and completely [19:40] cease making prisoner and martyr [19:42] payments by the time of the signing of [19:44] the Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement. [19:47] Now, elsewhere in the document [19:50] elsewhere in the document, it also gives [19:52] another list of reforms that the [19:54] Palestinian Authority has to undergo. [19:56] Here it is. Let me let's go back there. [19:58] It's much earlier. Yeah, it's right [19:59] here. [20:00] And what does it say they have to do? [20:02] They have to have a freedom of the [20:04] press, free and fair elections, respect [20:06] for human rights, [20:07] um and it also says they have to end all [20:10] programs, including school curricula and [20:12] textbooks, that serve to incite or [20:14] promote hatred against Israel. [20:17] Uh they have to have transparent, you [20:18] know, financial transparency. There's a [20:21] lot of stuff in here. And the the [20:23] Palestinian Authority is not even close [20:24] to fulfilling what's in this document. [20:28] And it it also says they have to make [20:30] sure that the the entire [20:32] uh the entire territory they govern is [20:34] completely demilitarized and that none [20:36] of their citizens have any weapons. [20:39] I mean, there's weapons all over Judea [20:41] and Samaria. [20:42] Not to mention the Gaza Strip right now. [20:45] Let's go back to Abbas's speech, okay? [20:47] Cuz he had more to say. [20:49] Let's put him back on the on the screen. [20:51] Let's put him back on the screen here. [20:52] Here we go. Good. [20:54] Despite the financial crisis and the [20:55] Israeli government's withholding of our [20:57] funds, which now exceeds 6 and 1/2 [20:59] billion dollars, the Palestinian [21:00] National Authority continues to carry [21:02] out its duties toward our people in the [21:04] Gaza Strip. Every month we pay for [21:06] salaries, health, and education because [21:08] we cannot leave our people without this. [21:09] You see what's happening? He's saying [21:10] that the Palestinian Authority is [21:11] actually paying people [21:13] paying people, giving salaries to people [21:15] in the Gaza Strip. Why are they doing [21:17] that? They want to make it a fait [21:19] accompli that they are already part of [21:21] the governing structure of Gaza. [21:24] They don't have money for anything, but [21:26] they're paying money to people in the [21:27] Gaza Strip that they don't even govern. [21:28] They haven't governed it in 20 years. [21:31] Anyway, he then goes on to describe the [21:33] dangerous Israeli escalation [21:36] settler attacks [21:38] that he says are backed by the Israeli [21:40] army and you know, he speaks out against [21:42] the he speaks about illegal settlements, [21:45] but then he says this. [21:46] We reject and condemn the attacks on our [21:49] Islamic and Christian holy sites and we [21:51] stress the importance of Palestinian [21:53] unity and strengthening comprehensive [21:55] national participation in this important [21:58] stage our Palestinian cause is passing [22:00] through and what this entails in terms [22:02] of commitment to the political program [22:04] we have outlined, which is a commitment [22:06] to the Palestinian Liberation [22:08] Organization [22:09] and a single state. We do not want [22:11] fragmentation in Palestine, commitment [22:14] to the PLO's political program, to [22:16] international legitimacy and to the [22:18] principle of one state, one law, one [22:20] legitimate weapon. What's the PLO's [22:22] political program? Well, the PLO's [22:23] political program is to conquer the [22:26] entire land of Israel through a phased [22:28] process of getting whatever you can at [22:30] each stage and then moving on to the [22:32] next stage. It's a plan to conquer all [22:34] of Israel. Anyway, but he talks about [22:36] having one legitimate weapon. Now, I I [22:38] don't know what he actually means, what [22:40] he's committing to. [22:41] Um, he never says, but you know, Trump's [22:44] plan for Gaza is very blunt. It says [22:47] that Hamas has to be completely [22:49] disarmed. [22:51] Uh, so we'll see where that's going. And [22:53] he goes on. Let's move on to a a more of [22:55] Abbas. In this regard, and this is this [22:58] is important, this is one of the keys. [22:59] We renew our commitment to the national [23:02] reform program and to holding [23:04] legislative elections on November 28th, [23:07] 2026 and to be followed by convening the [23:09] national council and organizing [23:11] presidential elections in 2027. In other [23:14] words, this election that's coming up [23:15] November 28th that they're talking about [23:17] in this press conference is only for the [23:19] legislature. It doesn't change out [23:21] Abbas. Abbas, the president, he'll be [23:24] then they're going to have they're [23:25] committed they haven't said a date for [23:27] this one yet at sometime in 2027 they'll [23:30] have a separate election for the [23:31] presidency. [23:34] Maybe. Let's see. [23:36] Um [23:37] And then he talks about how they've [23:39] already had they've already had [23:41] elections for municipal councils and [23:43] youth councils and a Fatah conference [23:46] and a student union conference. He's [23:47] trying to show that there's momentum [23:49] towards more democracy in the [23:51] Palestinian Authority areas. [23:54] Look what he said here. We renew our [23:56] commitment to the national reform [23:58] program. That's the line. [24:00] And that pairs directly with Erdogan [24:02] saying that I hope these elections bring [24:05] good fortune. In other words, if we have [24:07] the elections, we can sell to the world [24:10] that there's reform happening. That's [24:11] what this is about. But look at what [24:13] reform is supposed to include, as I said [24:15] before. [24:18] Right? It's supposed to have free press, [24:20] free and fair elections, some sort of [24:22] constitution, an independent judiciary, [24:24] transparent and corruption-resistant [24:26] financial institutions, an end to [24:28] incitement in school textbooks, full [24:31] demilitarization. All of this is in the [24:33] 2020 plan that resolution 2803 says that [24:36] they have to fulfill and the Trump [24:38] 20-point plan says they have to fulfill [24:40] before they can take over Gaza. So, when [24:42] Abbas says we're committed to the reform [24:44] program, does he mean all these things? [24:47] I doubt it. [24:49] And remember, the last Palestinian [24:51] election, 2006, handed Gaza to Hamas. [24:55] And it's now 20 years later. [24:59] So, in election is nice it's nice, but [25:01] that's not reform. [25:03] It wasn't reform [25:05] when they had an election in 2006 and [25:07] elected Hamas. [25:09] Anyway, he didn't thanks Erdogan and uh [25:11] that's the end and that's basically the [25:12] end of the speech. [25:15] Now, a few things I want to take away [25:16] from all this. [25:18] Let's remove this guy. We don't need him [25:19] there. [25:21] Um [25:22] they both opened with Allah [25:26] and the Quran, [25:27] right? [25:28] And that tells you how they understand [25:30] this whole thing. They're framing this [25:31] all as Islamic civilizational [25:35] um [25:36] and then [25:38] we look at Erdogan and we see what he's [25:41] doing in Syria, what he's doing in [25:43] Lebanon, what he's doing in Gaza, and [25:45] now the Palestinian Authority. Erdogan [25:48] is casting himself as the protector of [25:50] the Al-Aqsa mosque. [25:52] Right? This is his neo-Ottomanism that's [25:54] been the through line of his of his [25:56] foreign policy for the last two decades. [26:01] And the big issue, [26:05] reform. [26:06] The Palestinian Authority is reforming. [26:08] We're committed to the national reform [26:10] program. We're committed to [26:12] UN Security Council Resolution 2803. [26:15] And evidence is that we're having [26:17] elections. [26:20] Right? [26:23] When the PA had elections is sold as [26:25] reform, when that happens in the coming [26:28] months, [26:29] you will know where this began. [26:32] Okay? That's what this whole thing was [26:35] actually about. [26:36] That in the coming months, here's what I [26:38] want you to main takeaway, in the months [26:40] ahead, when the talk of these [26:43] Palestinian legislative elections take [26:45] place, cuz remember they're not changing [26:46] out the president who's the most [26:47] powerful person. Abbas is staying in [26:49] power. [26:50] They haven't set a date for that. [26:52] But when they have these legislative [26:54] elections for the Palestinian [26:55] legislature, [26:57] they are we are going to be bombarded [27:00] with news items and headlines about how [27:02] the Palestinian Authority is reformed. [27:05] But let's all remember, let's go back to [27:07] the to what the reforms are supposed to [27:09] be. [27:10] And and and and make sure that we are [27:14] that we're the knowledgeable ones who [27:16] can tell people, "No, no, no, no, no, [27:17] that's not what reform means." [27:19] Uh reform means a lot of other things. [27:21] In any event, that's what this is really [27:23] about. Hope you found this helpful. Hope [27:25] you found it useful.
