Transcript [00:00] We have to set that $7 aside. [00:02] For killing Palestinians? [00:04] >> Were you shocked by this ad? So are we. [00:06] Here's everything that's wrong with it. [00:08] >> Honey. [00:09] >> What? [00:10] >> You're going to have to put those eggs [00:11] back. [00:12] >> They don't like eggs anymore? [00:13] >> No, they like eggs. But we have to [00:15] [music] set that $7 aside. [00:18] For killing Palestinians? [00:19] >> The first claim of this ad is that this [00:21] family needs to put their eggs back [00:23] because their money needs to be put [00:24] aside to spend on killing Palestinians. [00:26] That's actually wrong twice. First, aid [00:29] to Israel is about 0.5%of the federal [00:31] budget and it's definitely not why [00:33] anyone is putting groceries back. [00:35] Second, it's not paying for killing [00:37] Palestinians. It helps pay for defense [00:40] like the interceptors that help shoot [00:41] down the rockets fired at Israeli [00:43] civilians. [00:44] >> Don't we give Israel $4 billion a year [00:45] anyways? [00:46] >> Yeah, and now we're giving them another [00:48] $26 billion. [00:51] >> Here the ad is saying that your money is [00:52] going overseas to Israel. Not quite. [00:55] Almost all of that aid money gets spent [00:57] in America on defense equipment from [00:59] American companies. And the $26 billion? [01:02] It was a one-time package from 2024 and [01:04] over a third of it was humanitarian aid [01:07] including for Gaza. [01:08] >> I'm thinking universal health care, too. [01:10] >> Yeah, they do. [01:13] We're paying for that, too, probably. [01:14] >> Americans are paying for Israel's health [01:16] care. No, Israelis pay for that with [01:18] their own tax dollars. And to top it all [01:21] off, it's hardly a new ad. It's a [01:23] low-budget repurposed video from Chunks, [01:25] I mean Jenks, failed presidential [01:27] campaign 2 years ago. Now it's being [01:30] used by Jenks Pack to support Abdul [01:32] Sayed's Senate race in Michigan. Jenk [01:34] had a whole grocery store to work with. [01:36] Inflation, corporate pricing, supply [01:38] chains, whatever. But he still chose to [01:41] blame the Jews. The word you're looking [01:42] for is scapegoating.
This ad isn't really about eggs.
It's about telling Michigan voters that Israel is the reason life is harder, with a Senate race on the line. It comes from Rebellion PAC, which links back to The Young Turks. Its founder, Cenk Uygur, is Hasan Piker's uncle and has a long history of antisemitic rhetoric.
Prices and the economy deserve real answers, not a scapegoat.
