Transcript [00:00] All right, folks. Cai Fleer here. I'm in [00:02] Jerusalem. I'm in a big parking lot, the [00:04] Manila parking lot, which is very close [00:07] to the old city of Jerusalem, and I have [00:09] to get to a bar mitzvah that's [00:11] happening. It was at the Western Wall. [00:14] And then there's like a little meal at [00:15] the Cardo Avenue that the Romans created [00:18] inside the old city. And I thought to [00:20] myself, how fun would it be to just take [00:22] you along with me on a walk to uh the [00:26] old city of Jerusalem from this parking [00:27] lot? So, let's go together, right? All [00:29] right. When was the last time you were [00:30] in Jerusalem? This is your chance. Let's [00:32] do it. All right. Let's start here. [00:34] [music] [00:40] [music] [00:45] Okay. And now we are walking inside of [00:49] the Manila Avenue. It is actually a very [00:52] beautiful thing that was created. There [00:54] was a uh architect I think Mosha Safi. [00:56] In any case, this architect made this [00:58] incredible walkway that leads you uh [01:01] into the old city uh from outside the [01:04] old city. We're coming in from the west. [01:07] [music] [01:12] [music] [01:19] I guess for me there's really very few [01:21] things that are as fun in this world as [01:24] walking in Jerusalem in general and [01:27] certainly to the old city. It's like [01:29] some kind of like it's like a special [01:31] feeling. It's like going it's like a [01:33] pilgrimage. It's going and it could be a [01:34] pilgrimage not for a big holiday but [01:36] just for something like a bar mitzvah [01:38] but it just feels special. Just want to [01:40] go there. Uh, and uh, and it's an I [01:44] already have an exciting fe excited [01:45] feeling. [music] [01:52] Uh, I think I think Hugo Boss was a uh, [01:55] a famous designer, German designer for [01:58] the Nazis. Uh, he would be surprised if [02:01] he knew that he had a store here in [02:03] Jerusalem. Is it a victory for him or a [02:05] victory for us? I think victory for us, [02:07] right? Okay. [02:16] >> [music] [02:24] >> Heat. Heat. [music] [02:31] [music] [02:32] Oh, [02:39] [music] [02:52] [music] when you go up this step, these [02:54] steps, then you end up in a big plaza. [02:57] And this plaza [music] is really fun. [03:01] Look at the old city of Jerusalem. Oh, I [03:03] want one of these for Hebrron. Look at [03:05] this. Look at this awesome thing. Wow. [03:09] You could take a lot of people in that. [03:11] That's awesome. I love this thing. Okay, [03:14] but uh let's take a look. And you could [03:17] see the the old city walls. Uh and these [03:22] walls were built by the Ottomans, but [03:24] basically the old city walls have been [03:26] rebuilt like some 30 times throughout [03:28] their history. And if you take a look [03:30] here, you see these things? These are [03:32] like these laser uh video mapping [03:35] devices that um that project amazing [03:39] stuff onto the old city walls. [03:42] So that's the old city walls. That's [03:44] towards west. Okay. Now I'm turning [03:47] right. [03:49] First thing we see a conglomeration of [03:51] police officers and border patrol [03:53] officers. I think they're on a tour day. [03:55] I don't think they look to be they don't [03:56] to be working hard. I think they're on [03:58] touring day. That happens a lot. And [04:00] here is Jaffa Gate. Okay, Jaffa Gate. [04:05] There's a guy playing a little guitar. [04:08] Maybe we'll walk over there. And let's [04:10] take a look here. There's a uh little [04:14] choo choo train type thing coming up. [04:19] There's the famous Tower of David today. [04:22] It's a great museum. [04:26] There's Jerusalem to the south. That's [04:28] where I came from. [04:33] So beautiful, [04:35] so energetic, so lively. I love it. And [04:38] I uh I'm so happy I got to do a little [04:40] video with you today just to give you a [04:42] feeling [04:44] of this great great city, the city that [04:47] we love so much. God's beloved city, [04:50] God's abode, [04:53] and the abode of so many different kinds [04:54] of people as well. [04:56] >> Okay, before uh before we go in, I just [05:00] want to kind of [05:03] >> get excited with you. This is what I [05:05] call on my tour is permission to be [05:06] wowed. Let's be wowed. Let's go in [05:08] together to the old city of Jerusalem [05:10] and feel that holiness contained within [05:12] its walls, that that revelation, that [05:14] godly face, and the beautiful history. [05:17] When history couples together with with [05:19] holiness, with the Bible, with rebirth, [05:22] there's a lot of organic energy that [05:24] happens. And so I'm very I just I just [05:27] love going into this place. [05:28] >> And we're going to bar mitzvah at the [05:30] Cardo. So let's go together [05:34] and enter the Jaffa gate together. [05:37] [music] [05:41] [music] [05:48] >> [music] [05:53] [music] [05:57] [music] [06:01] >> God bless you. Thank you very much. [06:03] Thank you. [06:04] >> How you like Jerusalem? [06:06] >> It's the best city in the world. How do [06:07] you like Jerusalem? [06:08] >> We love it. We live here. You are doing [06:11] great job here. [06:14] >> Better little better than before. [06:17] >> The business is coming back after the [06:18] war. [06:18] >> We hope so. Still still no tourist, you [06:22] know. Just very little bit, but it's not [06:25] >> not much. [06:27] >> Which television is this? Or [06:28] >> my television? My YouTube channel. [06:30] >> What's your name? [06:31] >> My name is Isai. [06:32] >> Nice to meet you. [06:33] >> God bless you. Thank you. [06:34] >> My name is Dia. [06:35] >> Dia. [06:36] >> Let me show you what I have. [06:37] >> No, it's okay. I'm just filming a little [06:38] bit for the folks. Just give people a [06:40] feeling of Jerusalem. [06:41] >> You are welcome to Jerusalem. [06:42] >> Thank you very much. How do you call [06:43] Jerusalem? [06:45] >> How do you say it in your language? [06:47] >> Also, [06:49] and you have family also living in other [06:50] countries. [06:52] >> Very good. Okay. Thank you so much. Have [06:54] a great day. [06:54] >> You're welcome. [06:55] >> All right. Off we go. Thank you. [07:05] This is what's called the Arab market [07:07] and it's a classic Middle East style [07:09] market. Um, [07:12] you know, the bazaar, the bazaar and the [07:15] bazaar is awesome. Just different cool [07:18] colors there [07:21] and chest sets and colors and [07:23] fragrances. [07:29] You have Orthodox Jews walking through [07:32] here, a mom and her kids, you have Arabs [07:35] here. And like if if I, you know, would [07:38] tell you that that Arabs and Jews, you [07:40] know, have a normal day-to-day [07:41] existence, you wouldn't believe it, [07:43] right? [07:52] [music] [08:03] >> [music] [08:12] [music] [08:17] >> Okay. And to the left here is the [08:19] Christian quarter. Okay. And it like [08:22] when you go over there, I just don't [08:23] have time right now. It looks like [08:24] Europe a little bit. It's got a [08:26] different feeling of Europe. [08:28] [laughter] And the merchants here, you [08:30] know, they sell stuff that that sells. [08:33] So, they'll sell you Christianity, [08:35] Islam, or or Judaism, whatever is going [08:37] to work for you or whatever you're [08:38] interested in. [08:39] >> All right. Allah. [08:43] [music] [08:53] Oh my gosh. Look at this. [08:54] >> Where you from? [08:55] >> Uh I am from Israel but also from the [08:58] world. [08:58] >> You see? [09:00] >> That is beautiful. [09:01] >> This is [09:03] you see down. [09:04] >> Look at this. Look at this. This is a [09:06] store, right? This is a store. Cool, [09:07] dude. Right. And down in the store [09:10] there's this floor. Look at this floor [09:13] of an ancient Jerusalem. Right [09:14] underneath the store. That's cool. And [09:17] oh my gosh. [09:19] >> Yeah. Archaeology underneath your store. [09:22] That's awesome. [09:23] >> Yes. [09:25] >> Okay. How much is it? Come on. Tell me [09:27] >> what you want to buy. [laughter] [09:30] >> You see? You see? We're starting the [09:31] Middle East haggling here. [09:37] We're inside the walls of the old city. [09:40] Oh man, it is a quiet quiet day here. [09:46] Wow. You know what? Before I go on, [09:50] let's go up here. [09:52] Shall we? Let's go up here on this [09:54] rooftop. This is like an open rooftop [09:57] that you're allowed to go onto. And [10:00] let's see the Pas de Resistance. If I [10:04] said that correctly, probably my friend [10:06] Eric will correct me. But [10:10] where is where is look at this rooftop [10:13] area [10:15] and there's like this yeshiva. There's [10:17] these [10:19] >> this certain shiva they were to fill in [10:20] all day. They were there to fill in all [10:22] day. And as I come up here on this [10:24] rooftop, take a look. Of course, there [10:30] is the Dome of the Rock, which is the [10:33] site of the third temple with the help [10:36] of God. [10:37] Amazing. [10:39] Beautiful. [10:43] >> You can hear a mosque in the background. [10:46] There's a church here as well. [10:54] >> And we're heading south towards the [10:58] Jewish quarter itself. Towards the [11:00] Jewish quarter. And here's more Orthodox [11:04] Jews. Hello. [11:12] Look at this kosher Korean cuisine. I [11:15] need to take Malaka here. Soul house. [11:18] Get it? It's got soul. [11:27] You know, it's not uh it's not often [11:31] that you have a bar mitzvah celebration [11:34] of a friend, okay? Uh friend's son. So [11:38] that means that we're like growing up, [11:39] we're doing our stuff, raising our kids. [11:41] Visatm. Uh, so I came in and I thought [11:45] to just share with you a little bit of [11:47] what it's like to walk through [11:48] Jerusalem. There's that song Walking in [11:50] Memphis. [11:55] >> Walking in Jerusalem, [11:58] >> right? [12:05] Get down. [12:07] >> Okay. [12:09] >> Okay. Now we're going down now. Oh, now [12:11] we're in the we're solidly inside the [12:13] Jewish quarter. We are solidly inside [12:15] the Jewish quarter. And somewhere in [12:18] this cardo is my friend's bar mitzvah. [12:22] Let's find out where that is. [12:27] [music] I'm going down into the [12:30] ancient Roman street. I'm going to take [12:32] this right into the ancient Roman [12:34] street. See Hakardo. See, it says it [12:39] says [12:40] remains of a magnificent main road from [12:43] the Roman Byzantine period serving [12:45] throughout time until today as a major [12:47] thoroughare for shopping. You see, it's [12:50] still doing the same thing as it was [12:52] back then. [12:54] And now I take a right down the [12:57] staircase, the staircase. [12:59] And look at these ancient shopping [13:03] stalls. Look at this. This is like a [13:05] stall from a Roman period. That is just [13:09] cool. Okay, look. There's another one. I [13:13] want to own this stall right here. Okay. [13:17] And then we turn around. The colonades, [13:19] that's what they're called, are still [13:20] here. There they are. Beautiful. [13:24] Okay. [13:26] And [13:27] I'm walking into the modern version of [13:31] the Cardo. And somewhere in here, my [13:33] friends are having a bar mitzvah. [13:35] Truthfully, I really do not know exactly [13:37] where, [13:39] but as you could see, like the old city [13:41] has a lot of these just mysteries. [13:46] I hear I hear some kind of noise of [13:50] celebration in the distance. [13:53] Okay, [13:55] wait. Here we go. [13:59] >> Here we go. [14:01] Okay, there are tour groups here. [14:04] >> Hi. There are tour groups here. Young [14:07] people are getting talked with, talked [14:09] to. And [14:12] somewhere around here is my good friend [14:13] Ari. Let's see the young people. I think [14:15] some of them my friend Ari. Okay, [14:20] this might be it. There's a celebration [14:21] here. I think this might be it. But [14:23] before I get to the party, just to show [14:25] you more young people getting a tour [14:28] right now, getting explanations about [14:31] what's what it's all about. [14:34] Israelis, they're speaking in Hebrew, [14:36] getting a tour. [14:38] And another group getting a tour. [14:43] Another group getting a tour. Here they [14:45] are. They've got some tour guide dude [14:47] explaining to them. Okay. And [14:52] finally, [14:54] there's a big painting here that [14:56] represents the cardo the way it used to [14:59] be. And it's not so different than when [15:01] it is today. Right? Look at this. Here I [15:04] am in the cardo. Look, it's like it's [15:07] like the ancient world, right? It's like [15:09] I'm walking in the ancient world today. [15:11] There it is. The past. [15:14] And what's so fun is that this is indeed [15:17] my good friend's my good friend Ari's [15:20] son's bar mitzvah. Inky's bar mitzvah. [15:23] Okay, there he is. Okay, and there's [15:26] everybody. So, I made it. I finally made [15:29] it. Ari, come over here for a second. Oh [15:32] my gosh. [15:37] Yo, give us a hug. Give us a hug, [15:40] >> bro. Bro, get on camera for just a [15:41] second. [15:41] >> Okay, I'm on camera. Hold this. [15:42] >> Yes. [15:44] Ari Silverman Mazalto, thank you. [15:46] >> You came from a different country to [15:48] come to celebrate your son's bar mitzvah [15:49] here. I've been doing a whole walking [15:51] tour. [15:52] >> Yeah. Amazing. [15:52] >> Just to get here. Just to get here. [15:53] Amazing. [15:54] >> So, tell me about why you chose This is [15:55] gorgeous. I've never been a bar mitzvah. [15:57] Tell me about why you chose to come [15:58] here. [15:58] >> So, so a few things we should say. First [16:00] of all, you should know uh I consider I [16:03] came from Barcelona to be here, but [16:05] actually we have a home in Israel. Why [16:07] do we have a home in Israel? because we [16:09] are uh first of all we're avid listeners [16:11] of the show and and it was your [16:14] encouragement to take the first step [16:16] that was part of giving us the that we [16:18] needed to get uh to get a as you would [16:21] call it your your piece of the rock [16:23] >> so we have so we came here your piece of [16:25] the rock that's right piece of the rock [16:26] >> that's what we used to call it the piece [16:27] of the rock [16:28] >> piece of the rock [16:29] >> and uh and also Ishai is many of you may [16:32] know is also a very special friend of [16:34] mine we go back over 30 years Oh, over [16:38] 30 years in yeshiva. I can tell you [16:40] stories of Ravish Ravishi. He's an [16:43] amazing an amazing Tommy Kam was much [16:46] fun to learn with and then we went into [16:48] the army together and I also remember [16:50] that we talked about the difference what [16:52] it takes for an a Jew to take on the gun [16:54] for the first time to defend our land to [16:56] be here. I myself when I when I had bar [16:59] mitzvah I was here and I wanted to give [17:02] to my son that same experience. I have [17:04] memories and I'll talk about this in a [17:04] minute, but I have memories walking down [17:06] the Cardo with my Bubby that she should [17:10] uh that she should her memory should be [17:12] a blessing and I wanted to give my son [17:14] that uh that same special that same [17:17] special feeling. [17:18] >> Isa, it means so much to have here. [17:20] >> You're really giving it to him today. [17:21] You're really giving it to him. [17:22] >> Thank you so much. And it means so much [17:23] to have us have you here join us. [17:24] >> Can I have the camera person hold this [17:26] camera for a second? Thanks. [17:29] >> Yeah. Yeah, of course. He's paying. [17:32] Listen, [clears throat] uh, thank you [17:33] very much for sending Maztov to your [17:34] son. Thank you for giving, uh, the folks [17:36] out there a chance to actually walk [17:37] through the old city of Jerusalem. And [17:39] pleasure. You've bought a place here in [17:41] the land of Israel. You're you live [17:42] abroad, but you have a piece of the [17:44] rock. [17:44] >> Piece of the rock. [17:44] >> Uh, and you're connecting. You're really [17:46] connecting. And then today at the Cardo [17:48] in this ancient Roman road [17:49] >> and we started at the hotel. [17:50] >> Awesome. [17:51] >> We start at the Kotel. [17:52] >> Wow. Wow. Really special. All right, [17:54] folks. Uh, that's Ari Silverman, his [17:55] son, Enki, Mazaltov. And Mazaltov to you [17:57] for coming and visiting us in Jerusalem. [18:00] Thank you so much. Blessings for a great [18:02] day. Remember, turn your face, turn your [18:04] prayers towards Jerusalem and amazing [18:06] energies will come your way. God bless [18:08] you wherever you are. Mazat and shalom.
