The Bondi Beach shooting on December 14, 2025, was a horrific antisemitic terrorist attack during a Hanukkah celebration ("Chanukah by the Sea") organized by Chabad, attended by about 1,000 people. Two gunmen—a father (Sajid Akram, 50, killed by police) and son (Naveed Akram, 24, critically injured and later charged)—opened fire from a footbridge, killing 15 people (including a 10-year-old girl, a Holocaust survivor, a rabbi, and others) and injuring over 40, some critically. Flags flew at half-mast on government buildings, and a moment of silence occurred at 6:47 PM, matching the attack time. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese attended but was booed by many attendees upon arrival and when mentioned—linked to criticism of his government's handling of rising antisemitism and Australia's recognition of a Palestinian state earlier in 2025. (The government denied any connection to the attack.) Other dignitaries, including NSW Premier Chris Minns (who received cheers) and representatives like King Charles III's delegate, attended. Local Jewish leader David Ossip shared a message from hero Ahmed al-Ahmed (a Syrian-Australian bystander who tackled one gunman and disarmed him despite being wounded): “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. Today, I stand with you, my brothers and sisters.” On the Handala hacking group (Iran-linked): They recently claimed
