43 years ago today, on October 23, 1983, Hezbollah terrorists carried out coordinated suicide bombings targeting American and French peacekeeping forces in Beirut, Lebanon, killing 241 U.S. Marines, sailors, and soldiers, 58 French military personnel, and 6 civilians.
The American and French forces were serving in Lebanon as part of a multinational peacekeeping mission.
The attacks underscored the devastating threat posed by Iran-backed terrorism and remain one of the deadliest acts of terrorism against American military personnel in U.S. history.
Today, we honor those who lost their lives, remember their service and sacrifice, and stand with the families who continue to carry their loss.
43 years later, we have not forgotten. 🇺🇸
